Sustainability in Care and Retirement Facilities

4 July 2023

Episode S3E7:

What do we mean by the terms “sustainability” and “green design?” In a sector with a history of lagging behind other areas of design and architecture, how can developers, architects and designers of care and retirement facilities finally move out in front? Join Lori and her guest, Danny Sharpe, of the Northstar Projects Consultancy, to explore these issues. Also in this month’s Innovation Spotlight, we’ll review an in-depth sustainability policy from the supply chain side.

About Danny Sharpe

Danny Sharpe is a co-founder and Director of Northstar Projects. Originally established in 2007 by Danny Sharpe and Ian Holmes, it remains the only consultancy in the UK to offer architecture, town planning and project management services solely to the elderly care sector. Northstar works on behalf of care home operators and developers, from initial sketch designs and planning, through seeking tenders and project managing the build process on behalf of care home operators.

Danny takes the lead in the architectural design and planning of new opportunities and has 30 years of experience in designing schemes and securing planning consents for clients. In 2022, his design for a new care home for Belfast Central Mission won the Best Architectural Design Award at the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards, and his design for a new care home for Pilgrim’s Friend Society won the inaugural Care Home Design of the Year at the National Care Awards 2022.
